Independents

As an independent political thinker, and whether or not you belong to a political party, we think you'll agree that both major political parties (the Republicans and the Democrats) have sold out the People of the United States. Today's push toward a utopian vision of global hegemony is corrupting the very foundation of everything that makes this nation great. In the process of becoming the most powerful nation on earth, we have abandoned the core principles and values that our Founders fought and died for, and our ancestors came here to establish and defend. And we have done this to the detriment of our own citizens, even as we claim to bring freedom and prosperity to others.

Whether you're a Libertarian, an environmentalist, deeply religious, or not religious at all, we ask you to consider this simple basic truth: in practice there is only one political party today, and that is the party of control and manipulation. Big Brother has arrived - complete with NewSpeak, manufactured crises, totalitarian surveillance, propaganda delivered through state-influenced media, and social and corporate welfare at taxpayer expense. The Ministries of Truth, Peace, and Plenty are proliferating, along with all the other characteristics of what some euphemistically refer to as the New World Order. The major political parties pretend to oppose each other, yet they vote in concert on virtually everything of significance. And when one begins to investigate why that might be, one discovers Big Money lurking behind every decision and every piece of legislation.

Call it by whatever name you choose - "elected representatives", or a ruling elite (oligarchy), or the New World Order, what it really is, is the undue influence of inordinate (often corporate) money and power on a process that was originally designed to protect the Rights and freedoms of the People. Lysander Spooner said, "I am none the less a slave because I am allowed to choose a new master once in a term of years". And that is what we seem to have today - elected masters, rather than elected representatives. If a corporation, union, or lobbying group has power over an elected representative, then does not each person in that organization effectively have twice the vote? And if the Directors of a corporation are acting on their own advice, without consulting the stockholders before making decisions on their behalf, are they not in effect a "ruling elite"?

This new order of things, bringing a stratified political and economic structure to a government of, by, and for the People, is destroying everything that defines the uniqueness of our great nation. It steps beyond the bounds of our geography, and outside of the limits defined by our Constitution (and it even mocks our Constitution, as our own elected representatives have recently done on live national television). Those who favor regulation may consider that our Constitution merely provides "guidance" rather than a binding social contract. But regulation is supposed to protect the People from special interests, is it not? Instead it protects the special interests from the People.

In forty short years we have accumulated more debt and unfunded liability than the aggregate sum of all the world's economies. We have more people in prison than any other country in the world. We seek a global American hegemony, yet the Chinese laugh at us while they drain our capital, our jobs, and our allies. We, today, have a financial liability that amounts to about 112,000 dollars for every American taxpayer. How long would it take a worker earning minimum wage, to pay back his share, while providing for his family? Every American child at the moment of birth, is saddled with a debt of almost 40,000 dollars. And yet we use American taxpayer money to fund the operations of private business interests overseas, even as they ship our jobs abroad and open our borders in the interest of labor at lower wages. How can this possibly be beneficial for the People of the United States?

Recently our country was nearly bankrupted by the charlatans who called themselves "Neo-Cons", and the voters were so disgusted that they removed these dangerous ideologues from power and elected a new President who promised change. And now, that President is continuing the same policies as his predecessor - engaging in foreign military adventures of dubious value, borrowing more money than our children will ever be able to pay back, surveiling American citizens whose only crime is speaking out of turn by expressing their displeasure at the course of events (and perhaps flying the wrong political bumper sticker, or using legal means to protect themselves from a government that seeks to force them into unwanted contracts), creating a plethora of new administrative agencies that dictate the law by decree, and hiding the truth from the American People who are now struggling to support the enormous financial and political burden of a government gone horribly awry.

One sees the elitism in play every day, when one turns on the television. On one channel, is the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank, thumbing his nose at the Congress when it asks what he has done with the Peoples' money. On the other channel, is the Speaker of the House mocking a reporter who asks a simple question about the constitutionality of a bill being passed through committee, and on a third channel is an Executive Branch administrator declaring that there will now be new laws and regulations reaching into every household in the country, without a vote, without the consideration of the Congress, and without the signature of the President!

We, the American Populist Party, support and respect the core American values that define both classical liberalism and modern republicanism. Both of these schools of political thought, are based in the Libertarian ideals of individual Rights and the freedoms of our citizens. What difference does it make, if these Rights are infringed by government or by corporations? Suffocating a man's economy is surely just as perilous as trampling on his Rights. Thomas Jefferson said, "the reason we resort to government at all, is to protect our Rights". The government that is supposed to protect the interests of the workers by regulating against corporate abuses, is instead pandering to to the very corporations it should be regulating (why are insurance companies exempt from anti-trust legislation?), and being bought off by the lobbyists on K Street whose combined spending exceeds that of many small countries! Our government tells us that the major banks are "too big to fail", and yet they use taxpayer money to dole out the biggest bonuses ever to their executives, even as they sit on the remaining wealth and refuse to put it into circulation. And now we will be taxed to save the planet from harmful emissions, even as wealthy speculators are allowed to trade freely in those same emissions, and profit from the misfortunes of developing nations whose economies suffer from the singular disadvantage of being industrial.

The American Populist Party represents the beginning of the change that we all know is needed. Liberals, conservatives, and independents alike agree on what the problem is - and if you don't yet know what it is, you can surf through our web site and we'll show you - we'll show you how the Fed has saddled our government with debt at 15% interest, we'll show you how the lobbyists buy off our elected representatives and write the complex legislation they're too lazy to read through, and we'll show you how every single bad thing that's happening today can be traced directly back to some form of violation or abuse of the Constitution of the United States. All we have to do, is put our heads together and stop enegaging in the partisan charade being foisted on us by those who profit from it. We consider that our planet is precious and our resources are few, and we wish to use our power wisely and justly. We abhor snake oil salesmen and con artists of all kinds, and we state plainly and simply that crisis politics is an abuse of power. We stipulate to the man-made dangers to our environment, and the need for healthcare for all, but we seek to attain those goals without the siphoning of our personal and national pocketbooks by greedy profiteers who wish to use the law as an instrument of plunder.

We call upon all like minded individuals to join us in bringing sanity back to our political process, and our relations with nations, and with people. We care more whether you stand for the People and against the corrupt special interests that dominate today's politics on Capitol Hill, and less whether you happen to be conservative or liberal or an independent political thinker. We want your help - not because you're an independent, but because you're an American who cares deeply about the future of our country. We consider that it will take politicians with integrity and intellectual honesty to restore some sanity and respectability to our elected representation and our federal government.

We're looking for candidates with guts, and the sincerity and dedication to stand up to the special interests and tackle the issues we face today, with the best interests of the American People as their number one priority, and without being sidetracked by Big Money and corporate influence. Such candidates do exist, and it's time to give them a voice.

Please take a few moments to read through our Essential Information pages, and browse our video library, and think about ways that you can help, to restore a Constitutional government - Of, By, and For the People.
